A Few Models, Many Discourses

The austerity and grandeur in the design of some books, especially art catalogs, is primarily a visual and tactile pleasure that lasts over time. This paper proposes a classification of the different types of art catalogs as unique tools for the understanding of artwork. This classification is developed from the technical parameters and the tools of media publishing: typography, graphic design, photography.

Seber Ugarte Calleja is a professor/researcher at the Universidad Técnica of Loja, Ecuador, in the Department of Communication Sciences. Calleja is also the Assistant of the Academic Vice-rector at the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU, Barcelona and a tenured professor in the Department of Communication at Universitat Abat Oliba CEU. Calleja has a Ph.D. in Philosophy, Aesthetics and Art Theory at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, Universitat de Autónoma de Barcelona and is a professor in the Master of Psycho-creativity, Faculty de Psychology, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He is also a researcher in psicrea:research group. He is a main researcher of processes, tools and discourses of communication.
